IOHSAD marks World Day for Decent Work at House of Representatives

October 7, 2026

Marking the World Day for Decent Work today, October 7, various organizations came together at the House of Representatives to demand an investigation on the major landfill tragedies that occurred earlier this year.

This pattern of disasters/neglect, which affected landfills in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, have resulted in at least 81 unacceptable deaths and 26 injuries.

The Makabayan bloc led the filing through House Resolution No. 1528, who were joined by the Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD), Samahan ng mga Maralita sa Upper Smokey Mountain (SMUSM), Ecowaste Coalition, Kadamay, Alliance for Nationalist and Genuine Labor Organizations (ANGLO KMU), and the Ecumenical Institute for Labor Education and Research (EILER).

Together, they asserted justice for the victims of landfill tragedies, the protection of informal workers through their inclusion in the OSH Law, and opposed Waste-to-Energy Incineration projects in Smokey Mountain.
